The growing of a "mullet"...

Is a mullet so bad? What follows here is a picture story of my on again, off again mullet hairdo. After years of "bowl" cuts and "part and glue" hairdos, I went overboard when I finally had my own choice in how to wear my hair.

I'm about 17 and I let my sister cut only the fringe (so I could see where I was going!) I'd always been paranoid about the size of my ears, so it was great to finally be able to cover them up! As I type this up, Shona is relating a story about how her dog was born with really huge ears and over time grew into them! (Thanks darling, I feel much better now!)

A mullet or a mop?

I'm 19 or 20 here and still only the fringe is being cut. (It was even worse with a motorbike helmet on, as the hair would be pushed down even more toward my eyes. The bits that poked out the back of the helmet got shredded by the wind.)

Cool McCool?

I thought i looked so cool at this age! If the camera panned down some, you'd also see the bib and brace overalls to go with the checked shirt.

Victim of fashion?

As well as the hair, big collared shirt, and small sized jumper, how do you like the skin tight pants?

I'm married to Jane at the time of this photo. This must have been one of the happier days!

From cool to laid out cold?

This is shortly after getting out of hospital following the major motorbike crash I'd been in. I'd lost 1/3 rd of my bodyweight and didn't care too much about my appearance any more as I was a mass of scars and an emotional and physical wreck.

(I'm actually trying to whistle in this picture!)

Let there be hair, and lots of it!

This must have been one of my pain free moments a few years later.

There's hair growing everywhere now, and the hairdo almost looks like a long "bowl cut"!

Finally the fully fledged mullet!

Another bunch of years later, and the hair has gone curly, blonde and into a full mullet!

For the second time in my life I thought I was looking pretty cool!

Short and boofy

It looks like I'm trying to make myself look taller with this style. (Maybe it's "pillow hair" from having just got out of bed or something like that?)

Time for a perm

Maybe not much different from the picture at the left, but there's a whole lot more curl in them thar locks now!

One last attempt at a mullet

I must have been trying to get back to the cooler look of my youth? When I look at this, all I can see is the size of my nose!

I've heard it said that your ears and your nose continue to grow your whole life. Looks like pretty soon, mine will take on a life of their own!

#2 all over

Just before I met Shona, I had all my hair cut off. It's been off ever since (and Shona is so glad it is too!)
